A Soccer Summer

I had asked Owen what activities he wanted to do this summer and his response was "Nothing.  I just want vacation, Mom."  It took some convincing for him to pick an activity, but he eventually settled on Soccer John's Mini Kickers Soccer Camp.  He had taken the same camp last summer so he knew what to expect.  It's a short 30 minute session two times a week, which was perfect for a 5 year old who only wanted to relax this summer.  And even better, Cole could be in the 3 year old class right before Owen's session.

Owen seemed to enjoy soccer camp, although if you ask him he'd probably disagree (he likes to be ornery like that!)  He was a great listener - he always follows directions from his teachers so well.  But new to this year was his competitiveness.  Before he had been more of a "stand back and watch" kind of kid, but this summer that definitely changed.  During the games and scrimmages, he was completely focused and trying his best to play the game.  It was so fun to watch him get excited when he'd score a goal during a scrimmage or win one of the many fun games that they played to work on their soccer skills.

And to top it all off, Owen's buddy David was also in his class.  They were together at FANA when they were babies and now they were big boys running around playing soccer!  It was a blast watching them play together.

This summer was Cole's first experience in organized sports.  He's not quite as good at following directions as his big brother, so Cole's soccer practices were a bit more hands on for Mom and Pa.  He improved so much over the summer and loved dribbling, throwing and kicking the ball into the net.

The boys did such a great job at soccer this summer.  I just hope they had as much fun playing the game as I had watching them!
