Mothers' Day - A Celebration for Two

In the weeks leading up to Mother's Day, Owen and Cole had been hard at work making special gifts to celebrate the day.  And when the day finally arrived, they were more than eager for me to open my presents.  Owen made a beautiful card inscribed with "I love yoe", which he spelled all by himself and a wonderful clay ornament he made at school using a kiln.

Cole had been busy too making adorable flowers out of an egg carton and pipe cleaners and a sweet card decorated with a bouquet of flowers using his hand print.

We spent the afternoon outside bike riding to a nearby park to enjoy the beautiful weather and ended the day with a delicious dinner at Biaggi's.

I am truly blessed to be the mom of these sweet little munchkins!  But it is a bitter-sweet day, as this day could not be possible without the ultimate sacrifice of another mother.

In our family, the celebration of Mother's Day isn't about just one mom, but two. We are privileged to celebrate a brave, strong mother who first chose life for her unborn child and then chose to give that child a chance at a better life.  Although I have never met her, we are forever bonded together by the undying love of our son.

To celebrate Owen's Birth Mama, we went to the nursery to find the perfect plant. Owen searched high and low, looking at each one.  We were running out of options when, in the last row, he found it!  A Dazzler Gaillardia that would eventually bloom with beautiful bright red and yellowish orange flowers.

Owen was eager to get the plant home to pick the perfect spot for it and give it a little H2O.  We can't wait to watch the plant grow and blossom, reminding us whenever we look at it of a courageous young woman who gave birth to an amazing boy.
