To Rose on Her First Birthday...

Sweet little Rose,

It's hard to believe that you are one year old already!  When we first laid our eyes on your adorable photo, you had just turned 5 months old.
Our first picture of Rose
It was 49 painfully long days from the day we found out about you until the day you were finally placed in our arms.  You were such a little peanut.  You were so quiet, taking in the world around you.  You had just learned how to sit although you were a bit wobbly.  You loved to be carried everywhere and we were happy to oblige!

Meeting Rose for the 1st time
It's strange to think that it's only been 5 months since we were united in the Green Room at FANA.  You have been growing in our hearts for so many years.   It feels like you've always been with us.  You are so much a part of us.  Our princesa.  Our rosebud.  Our sweet baby girl.

You have grown up so much over the last 5 months.  You are no longer stationary.  You love to be moving!  You are a super fast crawler, but prefer to be upright on your two little legs.  You can stand all by yourself!  For a few seconds at least...

You're standing!

Down you go...

You have the walking motion down although you're still working on your balance.  But that doesn't stop you!  You are happy to grab onto Mom or Pa's hand and off you go.  You have a mind of your own and like to go exactly where YOU want to go.  You aren't happy when we try to steer you in a different direction and you are quick to tell us your distaste in our thwarting of your plans.

You love your kitties!  Whenever you see them, you get very excited, squealing and wiggling out of my arms so that you can crawl over to them.  You love petting (or pulling!) their fur.  They've gotten used to the attention from a very loving little girl.

Your middle and ring fingers are still your go-to for putting yourself to sleep. Although you do love holding onto a doll or blanket in your other hand. You are by far our best sleeper (at least for now).  You sleep straight through the night. You love sleeping in (you're just like your Mama!)  It's not unusual for you to sleep until 9:00 or 10:00 am. Often times I have to wake you up in the morning so we can get the boys to their activities on time.

Snoozing away in your exersaucer
A full bin of toys will soon be empty with you around.  You love taking every single toy out of the bin.  Because toys should NOT be in bins, Rose should!

You have quite the head of hair!  Mom loves putting cute accessories in your hair, but they only last a minute because you automatically grab them and pull them right out!  The only thing that you have trouble pulling out are your pony tails, although it's not for a lack of trying.

You give the best hugs and kisses!!  You'll wrap your arms around my neck and hold on tight.  It makes me wish you'd never let go!  And I can't get enough of your big sloppy kisses.  You even make smoochy noises to go along with your puckered up lips.

You love your brothers and they love you!  All three of you have a blast roughhousing.  I feel like I'm constantly reminding them that you're much littler than they are.  But you don't seem to mind.  In fact, you can hold your own against those big brothers of yours.

You have found your voice and aren't afraid to tell us exactly what you want!  You are one feisty little girl!  If your brothers try to take a toy away from you, you let out your loud "AHHHHH!!!" to let them know you are quite displeased.  Or if you see something you want, you'll reach for it and exclaim "AHHHHH!!" to make sure we all know that you need something.

Over the past 5 months, you went from zero to six teeth!  Four on the top and two on bottom.  And you sure put them to work!  Food is your favorite!  You truly enjoy eating.  It's one sure fire way to keep you happy.  You really like your fruits, especially grapes, blueberries and strawberries and you even like veggies - potatoes, corn, carrots, peppers, just NOT green beans!

You love feeding yourself.  If someone else is holding the spoon, you are not a happy camper.  You must have a spoon in your hand, scooping up your food and attempting to get it into your mouth.

You have two baby signs mastered - "eat" and "bath".  Whenever we ask you if you want a bath, you get a big smile on your face, make the sign for "bath" and say "ba".  You sure love the bath.  So much that you've taken my hand, led me upstairs, down the hall and right into the bathroom where you proceeded to say "ba" asking for a bath.  You definitely know what you want!

You have such a great sense of humor.  You make the best silly faces!  You love being goofy and making people (including yourself!) laugh.

Rose smelling the roses
Your favorite place to be is the pantry.  You could spend hours digging into bags, pulling everything off the shelf and making quite a mess.  The step ladder that usually resides in the pantry has now been moved to the broom closet because you love to climb up on it to reach even more!

At the ripe old age of 1, you are a bit of a diva.  If you don't get your way, you'll lay down on the floor and pout.  It's actually pretty cute.  You definitely have some sass!

One things for sure, you are definitely a Mama's girl.  And I absolutely love it!  If someone takes you from my arms, you are quick to put on your "I want my Mama face!!"  I can't bear to see you upset. You have me wrapped around your little finger!

We are so blessed to call you our daughter!  We can not wait to see what adventures the next year brings.  You are our sweet little angel.  Our beautiful baby girl with the big brown eyes.  We love you, Rose Angelina!
