The Big August Birthday Party

At the end of August we celebrated the birthdays of both Owen and Rose with a big party.  Poor Owen - he wasn't excited to share his birthday party yet again, but that is what happens when little sister's birthday is just 2 days before his.

When I asked Owen what he wanted his party theme to be, he replied "dinosaurs".  For those that might not know, Owen's had a dino-themed party for the the last 6 years in a row!  When I mentioned that he barely played with dinosaurs anymore, he decided on a Minecraft party.  Owen is addicted to Minecraft!  He talks about the old days when he was just a "noob" but now he's a "pro" and knows all there is to know about the game.  He's studied up reading all the books and watching videos of other "pros".  He sure knows his Minecraft stuff.  Just ask him, he'll tell you ALL about it.

As for Rose, she had been asking for a puppy birthday cake for months so it was not a shock when she requested a puppy party.  Every day leading up to her party she'd ask, "Where's my puppy cake?" And every day I had to tell her the disappointing news that she'd have to be patient and wait for her birthday party for her special puppy cake.  Rose LOVES puppies so much so that she often pretends to be one!  She'll get down on the ground on all fours and say, "Me puppy" and then wait for a treat to be placed into her mouth.  She's one silly girl!

So the party theme was set - a Minecraft/Puppy Party!  It was quite the combination!

Half the house was decked out in Minecraft characters...Endermen, Creepers, Herobrine, Steve and even a pig.

They both had special birthday outfits to wear for the fiesta. Owen sported a new Minecraft t-shirt and Rose wore the perfect party dress.

Rose was so excited that her puppy birthday cake was FINALLY ready.  Baking and decorating two cakes at once can be a bit stressful, but this year I planned ahead and made all the fondant toppers ahead of time (why didn't I figure that out before?!?) Rose's cake was chocolate with cream cheese and chocolate chips and topped with a fondant dog and dog house.  She loved it!

For the Minecraft cake, Owen told me exactly what he wanted...a green cake with the Minecraft character Steve and a diamond sword on top (it HAD to be a diamond sword - a stone or iron sword would just not work!)  I didn't have the patience to make the sword out of fondant, so instead I took the easy way out and printed it.  Owen's cake was Devil's Food with vanilla filling and topped with a fondant Steve and paper sword.

The kids had a blast playing with their party guests, opening presents, and eating some of their favorites - strawberries, cheese, and Cane's chicken strips and fries.  Owen got everything he asked for - new Minecraft books, a nerf gun, cash and more!  And Rose loaded up on a plethora of new puppies (6 to be exact!), a pink potty and some fun new clothes.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the party.  Owen and Rose enjoyed being pampered on their special day!  A very happy 3rd birthday to Rose and 10th birthday to Owen!! Here's looking forward to what the next year brings!
