Kate is ONE!

How'd our littlest peanut turn one year old already?!? It seems like just yesterday we were gazing at our referral photo of an adorable 7 month old baby girl.

The last 5 months have flown by and Kate has grown so much...starting with her hair! She now has a head full of adorable curls! They get even curlier with the heat so she's been sporting the cutest hairdo this summer.

New teeth keep popping through. She now has 6 teeth and is able to chomp away on most foods when cut into small pieces. She LOVES eating big people food and would much rather devour anything from the table than settle for the less-tasty pureed baby food. Her first serving of spaghetti was a HUGE hit! She's quick to tell you she's done eating when she starts spraying everything within a 2 foot radius with food covered spit! Blowing raspberries is her tell tale sign to indicate she's all done.

Kate loves to talk and loves it even more when you talk back in her very own language. There's lots of Kate saying "Da", followed by one of us repeating her "Da" and back and forth. She gets the biggest grin when you hold a conversation with her. Although our girl is almost always ALL SMILES! She's such a happy baby. We call her "Smiley" because she's always grinning.

Her new found talent is clapping her hands and she is oh so very proud of her latest achievement. She has the best laugh - she'll let out a belly laugh followed by a snort, making us all laugh all over again!

She's become quite the Mama's Girl which I not-so-secretly love! There's nothing better than knowing your little one is securely attached to you (except when it's midnight and our little Kate is still wide awake and wanting Mom!)

Kate has gotten so strong. She's totally mastered sitting and getting in and out of the sitting position. She loves rocking back and forth on all fours - it's only a matter of time until she'll be crawling all over.

She's already quite mobile. Between rolling and army crawling, she can get to anything she sets her sights on, including all of her big brothers' and sister's belongings.

She loves jumping in her bouncy chair. So much so that even when she's not in her chair, she still bounces when standing! Once she stops bouncing, she becomes VERY interested in what's going on with her feet and will bend right over to look.

Kate's siblings smother her with love. Everyone fights over who will be the lucky one to play with, hold and feed their little sis.

Kate had her first of many photo shoots in June. She looked ADORABLE and did such a good job smiling for the camera (at least for the first 30 minutes!) We took the first photos in the studio and walked outside to take a few more but once Kate felt the grass on her legs, she was done with outside pictures!

On Kate's first birthday, she was sound asleep when her 7:30 am wake up call came. Poor baby was not impressed to have her photo taken first thing in the morning. After a rude awakening, we were off to drop Big Brother Owen off at sailing.

We celebrated that evening with dinner out at Noodles (she loved her first Mac & Cheese!) followed by watching Big Bro Cole's t-ball game, presents and ending with a chocolate cupcake. She gobbled up the entire thing!

The big party came 1 1/2 weeks later as Mom was stretched a bit too thin with the big FANA fundraising weekend.

Kate was the star of the day decked out in the perfect 1st birthday attire.

Big Sister Rose was an eager helper assisting Kate with all her gifts. And Kate was a very serious little one not quite sure what to think about all these colorful packages.

Everyone was eager to hold the birthday girl.

Kate's birthday cake survived a near fatal accident. Note to self, don't attempt to roll a cake in sprinkles just because the lady on YouTube makes it look so easy. Whoops!

It was a long day of excitement for the birthday girl who quickly went from digging into frosting to being ready for some zzzs. After a quick bath and long nap, she was well rested and ready to enjoy the rest of her day.

Little Miss Kate - we are so blessed to celebrate your big FIRST birthday with you. You are our missing piece, our ray of sunshine, our little Smiley. We are so thankful to call you our daughter. A very happy birthday to you, sweet Kate!
