Happy 2025! For this 80's girl, it's crazy to think we've entered the year 2025!
We celebrated the New Year at home with our special guests, Nana Bev and Popi Jerry. It has become our annual tradition to celebrate a late Christmas with them and then ring in the New Year together. I don't think anyone has made it up until midnight though. We are not the late owls we used to be and usually in bed by 9:00 pm.
The Christmas gifts from Nana and Popi had been wrapped and under our tree for weeks since they have them delivered directly to us. The kids had been eying those gifts since Christmas Day, eager to see what surprises were waiting for them. Finally the time to open the last of the gifts arrived. There was much excitement in the air!
Then it was Nana Bev's and Popi Jerry's turn to unwrap their gifts from us.
The next day was New Year's Eve. We dug out our supply of festive hats, leis, and horns to celebrate. For our New Year's Eve dinner, it's become our tradition to serve one of our favorite Colombian dishes - ajiaco, a chicken and potato stew flavored with a special hard-to-find Colombian herb called guascas. Thankfully it's available online making buying it a cinch...as long as I remember to place the order in time!
This year we added a new Colombian tradition to our celebration - eating twelve grapes for good luck at midnight. But for us, "midnight" was closer to 8:00 pm. Twelve grapes may not seem like a lot, unless the grapes are humongous like the green ones we had purchased.
Even the teenagers participated in our new grape-eating tradition. We will surely have the best of luck in 2025!
