On August 23, we celebrated our August birthdays. Rose had turned 11 years old the day prior. She had gotten a beautiful dress to wear for the big party. She looked like a princess.
Owen was just one day shy of 18. EIGHTEEN!! It's shocking to say it out loud. How quickly my baby boy grew up into a legal adult.
All our party guests arrived for the special occasion.
We started off with the much anticipated opening of the gifts. Both kids were treated to such fun and generous items.
After presents, it was time for dinner. Since they couldn't agree on the same menu, we had dinner delivered from two different places. Owen chose Chipotle. He's a big fan and always orders the same - a burrito bowl with chicken, steak, rice and lettuce. At least he adds one veggie!
As for Rose, she selected Cane's. There's no venturing off to try new things there. They only have one thing on the menu - chicken strips and fries!
After dinner, it was time for dessert. Owen requested his long-standing absolute favorite cake, a tres leches cake from Cafe Latte. He's been ordering the same cake for many years now and never tires of it.
Rose wanted a galaxy themed cake, and the bakery 'Something Sweet' definitely hit the mark. She picked a lemon cake with raspberry filling. It was delicious!
After cake, it was time for even more sweets! Shane held the pull-key-pinata while all the kids took turns pulling out one key at a time. We've had this piñata for many years and while it's gotten rather beaten up, it's been our all-time favorite. The kids have yet to figure out that it's not just one key holding the trap door shut, it's three!
It's so user friendly that even Aria and Sam were able to take a turn all by themselves. Alas, they no longer make this piñata version so we will hold onto it as long as possible.
Finally, the right keys were pulled and the candy poured out as the kids rushed to grab their favorites.
Sam had what may have been his very first sucker. He was a big fan, quickly munching it up and asking for another!
