Sam turned five years old on September 10th! My baby is growing up so quickly. It was a busy day with morning therapy and afternoon school for the birthday boy. That evening, we celebrated at home with dinner and dessert.
Sam thought the gluten-free brownies were divine and gobbled them all up.
He had fun opening a couple presents and got several new car toys for our automobile loving boy.
The following weekend was his big party. He looked adorable in his #5 construction truck t-shirt.
Lunch was yummy pizza from Umbria with a side of fruit.
Afterwards he opened some fun gifts with the help of one of his favorite people, his cousin Casey.
Everyone enjoyed watching the big birthday boy open his gifts.
For dessert, Sam had a chocolate cake from Something Sweet, perfectly decorated with a construction truck theme. Sam is a huge fan of big trucks so it was quite fitting.
Sam, you are such a smiley little guy. Your dimples are beyond adorable! And your sweet voice - I've never heard anyone say "yes" so enthusiastically! You love to talk and now have over 20 words. I can tell you are searching for more words in your vocabulary to convey your message, but it's often up to me and my 20 questions with yes/no answers to determine what you need. "Up" is a favorite word of yours with many meanings. You say "up" as in "let's go upstairs" or "pick me up" or "turn up the volume". You can now string 4 words together into a sentence! We are so excited to see your vocabulary continue to grow.
"No me!" is another popular phrase that you love to shout. When someone takes something you want you will let them know with a loud "NO, ME!" You use it frequently on our car rides whenever a good song comes on. If mom starts singing, you will quickly yell, "No, me!" as in only Sam can sing along. You are definitely one bossy 5 year old.
You have been working so very hard in therapy, and it's really starting to show. Your trunk and legs are so much stronger. You can ring sit on the floor for quite some time, although you love to purposely fall over. You are quite the stinker and think it's oh so funny to tumble onto the floor. You can walk with me holding your hands further and stand up longer. You absolutely love being upright, exploring your surroundings. We still need to work on strengthening and endurance, but you are making steady progress.
You have been wearing your knee immobilizers to bed every night without even a fuss. I thought there'd be no way you'd sleep with them on, but you do with no problem at all. And they are really helping your crouched legs get straighter, making standing and walking all the more easy.
You are still not a big fan of your glasses, despite having had them for quite some time. You thankfully will wear them to school now. Your teacher says you seem more engaged when you do. Clearly they help you see better, but you are still skeptical. You tossed them out of the van this summer after I loaded you in. I had no clue and backed right over them. Thankfully only the frame was broken, and it was still under warranty.
You are so very jumpy. That startle reflex of yours is always on high alert. The falling of a toy, the slamming of a door, any loud sound will have you flinching. Thankfully it doesn't upset you one bit. But hopefully we can get it tamed down. You'd think by now living in our rather loud and crazy household, you'd be accustomed to the occasional loud noise.
You are loved by everyone that meets you. I think it's the dimples and adorable smile that seems to tug at everyone's heart. Sadly we never got to see those sweet, squishy baby cheeks of yours.
Your siblings cannot get enough of you. They are constantly wanting to pick you up, pinch your cheeks, and smother you in kisses. Even Aria will follow you around the house, keeping a close eye on you to make sure her Sam is ok, and she will make sure to ask for help anytime you need an assist.
Sam, you are our fun-loving, determined, sweet little boy! We are so blessed to be able to celebrate your 5th birthday with you. We love you to the moon and back!
