Our 3rd Anniversary

For our 3rd anniversary we took a trip up to the North Shore. We saw so many beautiful things. Who knew there were water falls in Minnesota?? The first stop on our trip was to Gooseberry Falls. We spent some time taking in the beauty of the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls of the Gooseberry River.

After walking around Gooseberry Falls, we were back on the road. Our next stop was our hotel. We stayed at Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay. It was a quaint little lodge sitting right on the shore of Lake Superior. We had an awesome view of the lake out our window. One day we even saw a beaver playing down by the water. Maybe that's why the town is called Beaver Bay.

The lodge is known for their unique lawn chairs. They even have two ginormous ones in front of the lodge...

The next day was filled with hiking. Our first journey was the Bean and Bear Loop near Silver Bay. It was a 10-mile round trip hike. At the end of the trail was a gorgeous lake and not a soul to be found...

After our hike we grabbed a quick bite to eat at a local diner and headed off to Tettegouche State Park. This was our favorite part of the trip...there were some great trails with breathtaking scenery.

Our last stop of the day was Palisade Head to see the incredible views of Lake Superior.

On our last day, we decided to be a bit more adventurous and bike to Split Rock Lighthouse. We rented bikes in Beaver Bay and took off along the Gitchi-Gami Bike Trail. Since I hadn't ridden a bike in over 10 years I was a bit out of practice (and out of shape! Those big hills are killers!) But we had a great time!

After our bike trip, it was time to head home. We stopped in Duluth and grabbed lunch at Grandma's Saloon and Grill, took a quick walk along Lake Superior and then took off for home.

We got home in the late afternoon on our anniversary (May 8th). For dinner, Shane had made reservations at Kozlak's Royal Oak Restaurant. After dinner we headed home for cake and presents. We had ordered a cake from It Takes the Cake, the same bakery that made our wedding cake. Since last year we had ordered the chocolate cake with chocolate filling, this year we got the white cake with raspberry filling. It was delicious!

After dessert, it was time to open presents. This year being our 3rd anniversary, we exchanged anniversary gifts of leather (the traditional anniversary gift) or glass (the modern anniversary gift.) I gave Shane a couple new belts and he gave me a Circle of Love glass figurine titled "A Loving Anniversary".
