Shane met Owen and I at the mall over lunch. Even on a weekday afternoon, we had almost a 1/2 hour wait to meet Saint Nick. To pass the time, we rented Owen a ginormous 2-seat firetruck which he was very eager to take for a spin around the mall as we waited for Santa's helper to call our cell phone to let us know that Santa was ready to meet Owen (not sure how we would survive without cell phones!)
On this very occasion, the cell phone failed us and we missed the call (the reception in the middle of the mall is not that great). Luckily Shane was watching the clock and noticed that we should have heard from Santa's helper. So off we went to find out about our appointment with Santa. Santa's helper told us we could get in line to meet Santa - we were the 4th family in the line and we watched as the little ones would be placed in Santa's lap and point out the toys they wanted in Santa's very own catalog.
The little boy in front of us was around 3 years old and when Santa's helper opened the gate to let him in, the boy sprinted over to Santa with his arms outreached. It was such a sweet sight! Unfortunately for Owen, he would not feel the same way toward Santa. When it was Owen's turn, he was happy as a clam until Shane placed him on Santa's lap. Oh boy! Owen started screaming and crying as his face quickly turned bright red. The photographer quickly snapped Owen's very first picture with Santa. It's definitely one for the scrapbook!
