Christmas Festivities

What a joyous Christmas we had this year! The festivities began at the end of November with the putting up of the Christmas tree which always seems to take us longer and longer each year! This year Owen was at the age where he was excited to help with everything. His new favorite phrase is "Owen do it" He's also fond of "No talking Pa!" - not sure where he came up with that one!! Recently he started calling me "Mom", no more "Mama" or "Ma", now I'm "Mom"! He's getting to be such a big boy!

Owen and Pa went to work putting up the tree...
And Zoe, Cole and Mom watched comfortably from the couch ...
The next day it was time to decorate the tree. Owen was a great help putting on the ornaments or at least he tried to be!

He had to take a few breaks - his feet just couldn't resist the snappy beat of the Christmas music and off he'd go dancing up a storm.Owen was "not happy" (as he likes to say) when Mom wanted to get a family photo in...just check out the look on his face!
Finally the tree was up and it looked beautiful. When Owen saw it all lit up, he exclaimed "Wow! Cool!" With the tree up, we were on to the stockings. Cole wasn't too impressed with his Christmas stocking...
But Owen thought his was pretty neat...
Owen really got a kick out of the advent calendar this year. He loved opening all the compartments to see what was inside and then placing the figurines on the calendar. For some reason, all the figurines had to be floating in the sky. I tried to put a few in the barn, but that didn't last long. Owen quickly moved them all!
December 6th we celebrated my Grandpa's 90th birthday in Bismarck, ND. So we took off on Cole's first road trip to ND. The boys spent 13 hours in the car in 2 days! Shane wasn't able to make the drive with us, but luckily my brother James came with (I didn't have the courage to make the trip without another adult!) It was a long drive, but worth it for Cole to meet his Great Grandma and Grandpa Klein for the first time.
Cole's Great Grandma was so happy to have our little one in her arms she did not want to give him up!And Owen had a great time seeing his "Mamas" (that's what he calls his Grandma). He is definitely a Mamas' boy! He even got mad when I tried to sit in the chair that Mamas had been sitting in!
On December 12th, Cole turned two months old. How fast the time goes by! And how quickly they grow and change. He's no longer a newborn who sleeps the day away. Instead he's a wide-eyed 2 month old who loves watching his mobile go around and around, enjoys gazing into people's eyes as they talk to him and can't get enough of looking at the cute face in the mirror staring back at him.
On December 13 we spent a night out downtown with Owen. We brought him to church at St. Olaf (the church where we got married), grabbed dinner at the Newsroom, and enjoyed the Holidazzle parade as only true Minnesotans can on a bitter cold winter night.
Owen loved the parade so much, after each float he'd cry out "More! More!" which was very cute...that is until the parade was over. No more floats meant a very unhappy two year old who screamed and kicked the entire way back to the car!

December 16th, it was off to the mall to meet jolly old St. Nick. The line was unbelievably long when we arrived, but luckily some people had brought their dogs in to also meet Santa. A bit strange, but hey, it kept Owen entertained until it was our turn. I didn't expect the meeting to go well and...to put it mildly, it didn't. Cole was screaming when we handed him off to Santa and Owen immediately reached out his hands toward Pa and joined in screaming with Cole. Surprisingly, Cole quickly calmed down and was content as could be in Santa's arms, but Owen, well he just screamed louder and then came the tears! Poor Owen! Maybe next year Owen and Santa will hit it off...
December 19th was a big day - my baby sister got married! It was a busy weekend with the boys. I was the matron of honor, Owen was the ring bearer, and Cole was the honorary ring bearer (he had the easiest job by far and just slept through the entire ceremony!) Owen surprised us all and made it down the aisle with his cousin Mariah.

Owen did not want to pose for a family photo...

The gorgeous bride
Emma loves her ranch dressing!!
One of my favorite photos of Owen - it definitely shows off his attitude!
We celebrated Christmas Eve in Fessenden with my parents and brother James. Due to the bad snow storm, my sister and her new husband Kevin and my brother Jon and his family weren't able to make it. We all got dressed up for church...
Owen was quite dashing in his suit...
And Cole looked adorable in his argyle sweater vest...
After a fabulous dinner, it was time to open up presents. Owen was VERY excited to finally get to open his gifts. Although he did not want to take turns! After he opened a couple of his, it was time for some else to open a gift, but he would have none of that! He insisted on opening all of the presents! His Popi (aka Grandpa) was being silly and putting a bow on his head. Owen must of thought he looked ridiculous so he got up and tried to take the bow off, but he couldn't reach high enough. So Owen grabbed ahold of Popi's cheek and pulled him closer so he could bat the bow off!
On Christmas Day, we were supposed to head back to Minnesota, but due to the stormy weather and the horrible roads, we stayed for a few extra days. Somehow Santa still found us and left a gift for Owen and Cole at the back door. Owen was very excited to see that Santa had brought him a train track.
We had a wonderful time in North Dakota visiting Mamas and Popi and celebrating our first Christmas as a family of four! We are truly blessed to have two beautiful boys!
After we finally made it home, the boys walked into the house and were happy to see that Santa had visited! Although he had many fun things to pick from, the only thing Owen wanted to do was to color (or "paint" as he calls it) in his new coloring book with his new crayons and markers. Although he did give us a resounding "Go Sioux" when he saw his jersey!
Owen coloring the "big truck!"
The marker covers proved to be a bit challenging for him to open...
Cole especially liked his bumbo. He could sit up in it all by himself! On their way to bed the boys were surprised yet again with a gift from El Nino Jesus!

The Christmas celebration continued later that week at Shane's parents house. Owen had fun opening "more presents" and Cole enjoyed all the cuddle time.

Owen got a big kick out of his new Thomas the Train book. He immediately wanted to play with his buddy "Thomas!"
On New Years Day the Christmas celebration continued at our house. The four of us sat around the tree and watched Owen open everyone's gift (next year Cole may not be quite as fond of Owen opening all his presents!)

"What! I got a stinking ornament!"

"Hey Cole, let me show you how this works"

"My first Christmas was quite enjoyable!"
"I wish everyday could be Christmas!"

What a wonderful time we had this holiday season celebrating the birth of Jesus with all our loved ones. We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
