This year instead of taking the hay ride out to the pumpkin patch, we decided to make the journey on foot. It turned out to be a beautiful walk. The kids all eagerly took turns pulling the wagon.
It was quite a work out pulling the heavy load on the dirt road but we eventually made it to the pumpkin patch. We walked around the patch in search of the perfect pumpkins.
Then we loaded them up and headed on the journey back to the farm.
Our final stop at Waldoch Farm was the corn maze. Owen was very excited to discover the letters that were hidden throughout the maze in order to solve the puzzle. He is quite an amazing map reader - so much so that other families who were lost in the maze followed him to the exit!
There are always two phases to the maze. After the first phase, Rose and Cole were done wandering through the corn, but Owen insisted on finishing the maze so Owen and I continued on, weaving all throughout the maze until we reached the last letter and solved the word search - "Come home to roost." (The corn maze was in the shape of a Rooster but somehow we completely missed that huge clue!) It was a great way to end the perfect day at the farm!
The annual Halloween party at Nana Judy and Popi Dave's house was held the weekend before Halloween. The kids always look forward to this event. They like it much better than Trick-or-Treating! There were so many fun activities for them to partake in - decorating pumpkins, playing games, trick-or-treating throughout the house and even a scavenger hunt.
A few days before Halloween we carved pumpkins. Unfortunately one of the pumpkins had completely rotted so Shane made a last minute run to the grocery store to pick up another. The kids designed the faces for their pumpkins and then Shane got to work on the hard part carving them out.
One of our kind neighbors dropped off a haunted ginger bread house for the kids to decorate. But Owen decided that he was the only one old enough to tackle the job.
Finally Halloween night arrived! This year Rose was Super Girl. She loved her costume and wore it at least once (sometimes twice!) a week throughout the entire month of October.
Cole decided to be a Ghost Buster. He was ready to bust all those ghosts!
And Owen, of course, wanted to be something scary that would terrify his siblings (and everyone else!) He chose a creepy Jack-o-lantern costume. He got so many comments about his great costume, - one lady even asked if she could take his photo!
After so many festivities leading up to the big day (including school parties and Trunk-or-Treating at our church), I think the kids may have had enough of Halloween. After stopping by the few houses on our street that had the lights on, everyone voted to head home rather than walking to the next neighborhood.
Perhaps they just wanted to dig into their candy - as that's exactly what they did!
Happy Halloween!
