We celebrated Owen's 15th birthday and Rose's 8th birthday on August 28th with a small family gathering at our home.

While Owen no longer cares about decorations or party themes, Rose was very excited to have a puppy birthday party. She had one several years ago but didn't remember it (she was just 3 years old after all!) Luckily that made shopping for decorations a cinch since it was all still in the basement storage.

Shortly after the guests arrived, the presents were quickly ripped into. Rose opened each gift with lots of smiles and excitement and received both items on her wish list (a tent and hammock swing) as well as an assortment of other fun gifts.

All that Owen had asked for was cash. He had been saving up for an iPhone until recently when he got one just days before on his birthday. But with lofty funding now in the palm of his hands, he quickly shifted his sights to a pair of Apple AirPods (which is a fancy name for cordless earbuds for those less tech savvy).

Next on the agenda was the piñata. Our old trusty key piñata was filled with lots of sweet treats. Everyone (even Owen!) took a turn pulling the keys out one by one, until the magic key was pulled and all the sugary goodness came pouring out.

For lunch, Rose and Owen agreed on chicken strips and fries from Cane's (these two rarely agree on anything!)

Then it was time for an exciting game of "Pin-the-tail-on-the-puppy"! The kids all got into it - even Owen! Everyone got a kick watching as one after another did their best to put the tail onto the puppy while blindfolded.

This year, Owen requested another tres leches cake from Cafe Latte. It's been his favorite for the last several years.

As for Rose, she picked out the cutest puppy cake design and the flavor this year...'Death by Chocolate" courtesy of CAKED, a local in-home baker.

We sang a very "Happy Birthday to you" first to Owen, then to Rose and each blew out their candles. What a fun day we had celebrating these two kiddos. A very happy birthday to Owen and Rose!
