Rose's 10th Family Day

On March 20th, we celebrated one decade with Rose! It is so crazy to think it was 10 years ago when we met our baby girl for the very first time. We had waited over 4 years for that day to arrive. And finally it did.

On that day 10 years ago, we stood, nervously waiting with anticipation in the Green Room at FANA. The same room where we had met Owen 6 years prior. It was all too familiar - the same couch, same artwork on the wall, same feeling of nerve-racking excitement. But this time, instead of just Shane and I, there were now four of us waiting.

We had been in the Green Room for quite some time and were all getting quite antsy (especially the boys), when finally around the corner she appeared - our beautiful princess, carried by a FANA adoptee, and dressed in pink from head to toe.

Rose was tiny - just 6 months old, and the cutest little peanut. She gazed at us all with a serious look on her face, taking everything in.

On that day, our hearts swelled with joy. The long 4+ year wait to meet our daughter was finally over as we left FANA with our baby girl in our arms, ready to start our new lives together as a family of five.

Fast forward 10 years, and our precious baby girl is a full fledged tween. She is sugar and spice, sweet and sassy - our hug-loving, creative and determined daughter. Rose's Family Day celebration landed on a Thursday, which meant home from school at 4:30 pm and off to swim team she went by 5:30 with only an hour to squeeze in our celebration. It was crunch time to finish up homework, then gobble up her requested meal of butter noodles from Noodles and Company, and she was running out the door for swim team practice. Oh my, how things have changed!

Rose is one creative young lady determined to do things her way. Once she comes up with an idea, there is simply no changing her mind. She knows what she wants and exactly how she plans to accomplish it.

She is natural born leader, rarely following along, but instead, paving the path for others to follow. She is quite the negotiator and can easily convince her siblings to follow her lead. Well, most of her siblings. Biggest brother Owen will have none of that, which is one reason they both butt heads quite often.

Rose loves stuffed animals. She has quite the extensive collection of "stuffys" as she likes to call them. Her stuffy pile keeps growing and growing, but she has a hard time letting any of them go. You just never know when you'll need a gigantic squishmallow to curl up with.

Rose is 100% obsessed with fuzzy blankets. You will rarely see her without one. Her absolute favorite is a gray chenille blanket I got from Target years ago. It is falling apart with giant holes torn in it, but she doesn't care one bit. She will tote that blanket with her from her bed to the table to the car. It goes nearly everywhere she does.

Rose and Sam are attached at the hip. She just can't get enough of his adorableness. She'll hoist him up and carry him along with her to play or snuggle. She sure loves that little brother of hers!

Rose has become quite the chef in the kitchen. Her go-to recipes include waffles topped with fruit, chocolate, and whipped cream (the fancier the better!), smoothies blended up with with all her favorite fruits, and most recently, homemade pancakes with chocolate chips (she can even make them heart shaped!)

Rose is a music aficionado. She is always streaming her favorite songs and bopping along to the beat. Even in the car, her spotify list is requested the moment she hops in.  She has a long list of top favorites including "Sailor Song" by Gigi Perez and "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran.

Rose is highly opinionated. She's a girl who knows what she likes. Some of Rose's all-time favorites include her favorite colors - pink, purple and teal; favorite food - watermelon and strawberries; favorite restaurant - Noodles and Company; favorite dessert place - Cherry Berry and Crumbl Cookies; favorite book series - "I Survived"; and favorite activities - swimming and sailing.

Rose is an adventurous soul. She loves zooming down hills as fast as she can ride her bike or scooter, jumping as high as possible on the trampoline, and wildly swinging in circles on the platform swing in our basement. She loves to be on the go - ice skating, skiing, sailing, diving - the faster and more wild the experience, the better!

Rose is our outgoing, social butterfly. She loves meeting new people and makes friends everywhere she goes. She is our fun-loving, energetic, headstrong girl. We are so blessed to call her our daughter. A very happy 10th Family Day to our beautiful Rose!
