Halloween snuck up on us yet again. It seems to every year, but this one was even sneakier. We didn't finish carving our pumpkins until the very last minute on Halloween day! And sadly Owen's pumpkin never did get carved. At least the rest of the kids had fun designing their pumpkin's faces.

Afterwards they got to work cleaning out the insides - the most fun part for some and the no-way-not-gonna-touch-that-stuff for others.

Then came time for the carving. This year we tried using cookie-cutter tools to cut out the faces. It seemed like an easy-to-do concept. Just line up the cookie-cutter and pound it through. But pumpkins are hard and attempting to use a cookie-cutter on a curved, slippery surface was quite tricky.

It took much more parental effort than I had planned, but everyone's pumpkins still turned out great! Rose had an adorable kitty pumpkin that unfortunately I didn't get a photo of, but luckily I snapped some shots of the rest of the kid's fun creations.

This year we had five kiddos wearing costumes, but Kate was the only one to pick out a new Halloween costume. She had decided this summer that she was going to be Lilo from the Lilo and Stitch movie. She had her costume months in advance. Everyone else decided to recycle a previous Halloween costume. Rose dressed up as Stitch. Cole went as a Twins player.
Aria went as Elsa...
And Sam as a pirate...
On Halloween night, Rose had big plans to go trick-or-treating with a friend so off she headed on her adventure. Kate was going to hit up the neighborhood with Shane, but at the last minute Cole, Aria, Sam and I decided to tag along. It was rather chilly and quite dark with lots of kids running from house to house. One of the homes was decked out with animatronics nearly as tall as the house! It was quite impressive and rather spooky! We didn't even attempt to make it to their door as we had some rather nervous little ones.
A couple days later we gathered at Nana Judy's and Popi Dave's house for their annual Halloween party.
It was a fun-filled time with lots of activities, games and treats.
Everyone had a blast! It was the perfect way to wrap up our Halloween festivities. Happy Halloween!
