Owen's High School Graduation

Owen graduated from Groves Academy on June 2nd. What a huge milestone! It has not been an easy journey, but he made it!

The end of the school year was rather rocky as we navigated a bullying situation. Sadly, Owen didn't even want to attend his graduation ceremony. He thought his graduation party on Lake Minnetonka was the perfect way to commemorate the big event. But after much discussion and a bit of push-back from his elders, he agreed to go.

In true Owen fashion, he didn't even try on his graduation gown or put much thought into his outfit. Instead, he sprinted out of the house at the last minute with a white t-shirt, nike shorts, long black socks and black dress shoes. At least he was "dressed up" from the ankle down.

I held back the tears as I helped him with his cap. My baby boy is now a high school graduate. Oh how fast these years have flown by.

There was a reception at the school before the ceremony. We grabbed a bite to eat while Owen mingled with his friends.

Soon it was time to for the ceremony to begin. We entered the gym and found our assigned row complete with giant Owen heads on a stick!

The 2026 graduating class of Groves Academy lined up for their last photo together and then proceeded into the gymnasium one by one.

The ceremony was touching and included an inspirational speech by a prior Groves graduate and a video montage of clips of each graduate answering questions about their Senior Year and upcoming plans.

When Owen's name was called, he proudly walked across the stage to accept his high school diploma.

We all gathered after the ceremony to congratulate our new high school graduate. Way to go Owen!

Next year he is off to sunnier and warmer days at Arizona State University. He was totally shocked when I stumbled upon a photo of him as a toddler wearing an ASU t-shirt. It must be fate.

We wish you all the best, Owen and can't wait to visit you this winter ; )
