After several days at the hospital, we've gotten into a routine. Shane's been sleeping at the hotel and then taking a cab over in the morning with some delicious coffee from Oasis Cafe. The coffee at the Marriott is sooo bad that we were thrilled when Kim (the fellow Colombian adoptive mom from the US who is now living in Guyana) recommended Oasis. I was sure missing out on my morning mochas. After the morning coffee run, I grab a cab back to the hotel for a bit of a break and then head back to Mercy Hospital late morning.
Everything in Georgetown is quite close. It's a quick 5 minute cab ride from the hotel to the hospital. While it's only a 1/2 mile way, Georgetown is not a good walking city. The roads are very narrow, there are no sidewalks and the drivers are quite aggressive, making a short 1/2 mile stroll a bit too dangerous for our tastes. Which means you need to take a cab wherever you go, but you also need to be careful and not flag down a cab off the street. It definitely makes getting around the city a bit difficult. We are so thankful that Kim put us in touch with Quincy, a friendly taxi driver. He's been a tremendous help getting us from point A to point B.
We were waiting in our hospital room all afternoon wondering if Aria would be discharged. The nurses were waiting to hear from Dr. Dukhi to let us know. In the meantime, the air conditioner in our hospital room had stopped working making our room and all of us quite steamy. So the nurse told us to pack up and that they'd switch us to another room with a functioning AC. Phew!!
It's been so nice having Aria off the IV. Carrying her around carefully due to her sutures and then having to pull a big IV pole carefully along was so difficult. The freedom of being able to pick her up and easily move her around the room is so wonderful.
Now that Aria is off the IV, she's having to take her medicine orally, which she absolutely despises. She can put up quite a fight when it comes time for her meds. Her new pain medicine may not be as effective. This afternoon she was screaming and screaming. It's hard to know if it was due to the surgery, multiple IVs, tummy issues or the mouthful of teeth that are trying to push through at once.
Dr. Dukhi stopped in in the late afternoon to check on Aria. After talking to the nurses, he said Aria could be discharged! YAY!! We have a followup appointment with him on Wednesday.
We were treated to a few more smiles and giggles out of Aria. She was laying on the bed and Shane said something that she thought was quite silly and started to giggle. We just love hearing her laugh. It's like music to our ears.
Tomorrow we are hoping to tackle some paperwork and get the passport process started. Cross your fingers that we don't run into any delays.
