Day 14: "Groundhog Day" in La Mesa

Today marks our 6th day in La Mesa. The days are blurring together with no real schedule or appointments to differentiate the days. I have to look at my phone just to remind me what day of the week it is. It feels like the movie "Groundhog Day" with us waking up and repeating the same day over and over again. We will likely have another week of the same redundant activities. With our big crew and their abilities, we won't be venturing out of our rental house until it's time to head to court.

Thankfully we have enough things to do to pass our time. The pool has been quite popular with the youngest four kids. They love to splash and cool down in the water.  We brought a couple card games along that both Rose and Kate have enjoyed. Cole has been loving the giant Smart TV in the master bedroom where he can get caught up on all his favorite YouTubers. We are still tweaking nap times for Aria and Sam. I am hoping that they'll eventually nap together, but right now they sleep better when separate. In between, we get everyone feed, and before we know it, it's time for bed. Then we wake up and do it all over again.

We are learning so much about our sweet Sam. We discovered that he loves zippers. He kept unzipping the three zippers on his backpack over and over. He was so focused and he did so well! I have no doubt his fine motor skills will blossom once home. He was so enthralled with his zippers that we had to hide his backpack as it was time for dinner, and he was not at all interested in stopping his zipper-fun.

We were told that Samuel brushed his teeth three times a day and enjoyed all flavors of toothpaste. Based on that, I was under the assumption that teeth brushing would be a fairly simple task. But our sweet boy HATES getting his teeth brushed. He will cry and call out "no, no, no!" It breaks my heart so I'm trying to ease him into it without causing too much anxiety for him.

Strangely in his paperwork, it says he doesn't like to be held and prefers to sit in his chair. We have seen the complete opposite. Samuel adores being held, but not just sitting on your lap. He must be upright with his head on your shoulder while being carrried around. This may be an easy task to undertake for an infant, but a 3 1/2 year old boy sure gets heavy quickly! He's also a hot tamale which makes it all the more difficult in the hot La Mesa weather. My mom and I have taken turns as much as possible carting my sweaty little man all over the house.

Tonight, bedtime was a bit rough. Sam did not want to lay down and he was rather upset. Thankfully a FaceTime call with Shane perked him right up. And afterwards he quickly fell asleep. Fingers crossed he sleeps through the night.
