A Trip to Lake Mille Lacs

This summer we decided to take a quick trip up North to Izatys Resort on Lake Mille Lacs.  It was our first Minnesota lake vacation. Our first day there was a bit cool as a rain storm had just passed.  We checked out the resort grounds and played a bit of volleyball (or at least attempted to play!) while Rose had fun digging in the sand.

Then we headed off to the local bowling alley for some pizza and fun.

Day 2 was spent at Paul Bunyan Land.  The day would have been much more pleasant if it wasn't for the gigantic Paul Bunyan statue that terrified the kids.  He is pretty creepy!!  He even talks and moves his head!

But once we got past that, we enjoyed a day filled with rides, walking through the Pioneer Village, and petting the animals.

The Tilt-a-Whirl was a big hit with Cole - he asked to ride it over and over again! Rose and I went one too many times and by the end of the ride, we were DONE. No more Tilt-a-Whirl for either of us!

Day 3 was spent at the pool.  The kids all love to swim.  The pool was a bit of a hike from our condo so we rented a golf cart to zoom to the pool and back.

On Day 4 we rented a pontoon to cruise around on massive Lake Mille Lacs. I didn't realize just how big the lake was until we were on it - we could see nothing but water everywhere!  It was a beautiful day on the water.  But the pontoon was a bit too slow for Cole's tastes, and the life jackets available were much too large for Cole and Rose, making them quite uncomfortable.  With 2 clumsy, cranky kids on the boat and only 1 adult available to assist them, I knew we wouldn't last long.  We enjoyed a short ride and then it was back to the dock for Cole, Rose and Mom.  We hopped off the boat and Shane and Owen headed back out to enjoy the water.

Day 5 was spent swimming at the pool and goofing off in the condo and ended with lighting a few sparklers to celebrate the 4th of July.

On Day 6 we loaded up the car and headed home.  We were all excited to get home and back to our own beds!  A one bedroom condo is a bit too tight for our party of 5!
