It's been 2 weeks since our dossier landed in Guyana and not much has happened since. We had high hopes of traveling mid-May based on our previous conversations with the Guyana Child Protection Agency (CPA). Unfortunately, days have quickly turned into weeks as we await our travel date and we are now anticipating traveling sometime in early June.
We have had no direction from our agency regarding travel which has been frustrating to say the least. We don't have direct contact with the CPA so we are relying on Hopscotch, our adoption agency, to communicate on our behalf. There unfortunately seems to be a bit of a disconnect between the CPA and our agency. From what I can tell, it doesn't seem like Hopscotch has placed many children from Guyana. They really have no clue as to the process or timeline. In fact, Guyana places very few children in the US that I haven't been able to locate another agency that currently works with Guyana. It's such a small adoption program that we are unfortunately stuck working out the kinks in the process. While frustrating to be this close with still no clarity on when we can finally travel, we are hopeful that we will get the word any day.
Yesterday we did get a cryptic email forwarded to us by our agency which they had received from Ms. Jardine, the woman from the CPA who has been corresponding with us from Guyana. She said that the officer in charge of our case will be scheduling a phone interview with us "soon". A few months back, we were told that instead of doing our initial interview when we arrived to Guyana, we could do it remotely which would help expedite our stay. So even though our trip has been delayed, we are hoping that once we arrive to Guyana, things will move quickly and that our 2 - 3 week stay will be on the short end of that time frame. It's hard for me to imagine being away from my other 4 kiddos for that long of a time period. It's a strange feeling wanting so bad to travel to meet our daughter, but not wanting to travel and leave behind our other kids. It feels as though my heart has been split in two and scattered across two continents.
The last time we saw our sweet girl was in March just before Spring Break. We spent 40 minutes on Skype with her and her caregivers. Hopefully soon I won't have to watch the video to see my little babe because she will finally be in my arms.
Please pray that we can get the phone interview completed soon and be on our way to Guyana. We are so looking forward to the day when our entire family can finally be together.
