Our I-800 was shipped via overnight Fedex on December 5th to USCIS. This officially started the countdown to our travel dates. We were prepared for it to be a long 3 month wait until we'd be issued our approval, but...we are approved! Our approval letter arrived in the mail Jan 6th - exactly one month after our paperwork arrived at USCIS.
Now that we have our I-800 approval, we are in the queue waiting to receive an email from the National Visa Center with the case numbers that we need in order to fill out the application for an immigrant visa for our new son. This could take anywhere from 1 to 2+ weeks.
Once the visa application is completed, we wait on the very last step - an Article 5 letter will be issued by the US to Colombia notifying Colombia that everything is in order to proceed with the adoption. After our Article 5 is issued, Colombia can finally give us our travel dates.
If things keep on the fast track, we could potentially be Bogota bound in just 5 weeks!! We are praying hard for a quick turnaround. Our sweet little boy has waited long enough. Watching him grow up in photos has been quite heartbreaking and we are more than eager to finally get him home.
