Day 15: A Mother's Day Miracle

I awoke this morning to the sounds of our little girl breathing in the crib next to my bed. It's hard to believe she is finally here with us. That each morning I get to wake up to this adorable little face. This very crib has been sitting here in our apartment empty for 2 weeks and now it is filled with our bundle of joy! It is truly a miracle that I am able to celebrate this Mother's Day with all 4 of my little blessings.

Shane brought me coffee in bed this morning and a delicious slice of carrot cake from Oma. The perfect way to start the day!

Kate's first night with us could not have gone better. She was a tired little girl (and thankfully she's used to sleeping through quite a bit of chaos at the hospital.) She quickly fell asleep in her crib and would have happily slept the night away if it wasn't for her 2:00 am and 6:00 am inhaler treatments. But she easily fell back to sleep after each treatment and didn't get up until 9:00 am!

Rose kept peeking over Kate's crib waiting for her to wake up.  She was so excited when her baby sister finally started to stir. Rose had been asleep last night when Kate made her grand appearance so she was very eager to get to play with her little sis.

As in usual fashion, Owen and Rose argued all morning about who would be the first to hold Kate, who would be the one to give her a toy, and pretty much anything else that came up regarding Kate. They are sure enamored by their cute baby sister!

Cole, on the other hand, was the polar opposite. He usually takes some time to warm up to new people, especially unpredictable ones like babies. He spent a large part of the day outside with Nana Bev, although by the end of the day, he was getting much more comfortable around his new little sis.

Soon it was time to get Kate dressed for the day, but with her nasal cannula, only button-up shirts work which I have none of, so it was a PJ day for Kate. I only brought along 9 month clothes and she's nearly busting at the seems. She's one big girl!

We had so many 'firsts' today. Like the first time giving Kate a snack. Rose was so very eager to help out and asked to give her more and more! Kate loved chewing up her tasty treats, but most of the food ended up on her clothes instead of in her mouth.

Rose also insisted on holding baby sister, just like Owen.  She sure loves her new little sis and wants to help with her in any way she can. They are the cutest pair!

Lunch was a new adventure. Kate wasn't sure what to think about the spinach, pear, and pea combo that I was attempting to feed her. But as with most things, she kindly put up with it with a smile on her face (at least after the initial shock wondering what on earth I'm trying to put in her mouth!)

Kate is such an easy going girl, but man, can she squeal! It's such a loud noise coming from such a little nugget.  She'll do it when she's happy OR sad so you can never quite tell what her status is until you do a bit more digging.

Today we got our very first photo of all six of us. It proved to be nearly impossible to get everyone to look at the camera at the same time, let alone smile, but five out of six ain't too bad.

Owen's been hard at work teaching Kate all there is to know about Roblox. She may be the only 9 month old who's watched the Roblox theme song video at least 10 times.

Shane spent most of his day running errands. We needed a seat for Kate to sit in to keep her safe and entertained. We were also running low on oxygen. FANA had dropped off two small tanks, but neither were full so we had already run out of one within 12 hours. He came back from one errand with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me. Colombia is the #2 exporter of flowers in the world, 2nd only to the Netherlands. They were beautiful!

But he was having issues locating a place to refill our oxygen tank. Thank goodness Maria Teresa Perez found a place open on Sunday.  She picked Shane up and they were able to load up on enough oxygen for the week. He came back with our small tank filled, PLUS another small tank on wheels so that I can move Kate around more easily PLUS a giant tank for during the night! We should now be set! We were also in dire need of medical tape to secure Kate's nasal cannula. She had pulled one side of the oxygen tubing off her check at nap time and when I peeked in to check on her, she was chewing on it - that little stinker!  All I had on hand was band-aids, so that's what we used until the medical tape arrived.

My only request for Mother's Day was a photo with all four of my niƱos. Wow! Am I blessed!

While we waited for Kate's new chair to arrive, Rose had the fabulous idea of using the inflatable baby bath I had brought along as a chair for Kate. Kate got super cozy in it with all her toys.

Just before dinner, Shane arrived with Kate's new chair and some new medical tape to secure her nasal cannula. She loved her chair so much she happily played in it while we all ate dinner. For me, dinner included a BBC Chapinero and Archies pizza - YUM!

The girls headed to the girls' room for some relaxation before bed. Rose asked me again tonight (she's asked a few other times before), "Is baby sister a boy or a girl?" and whenever I respond, "A girl", Rose squeals with delight and exclaims, "A girl!! Just like me!"  She is so very excited to no longer be outnumbered by her brothers.

I am so thankful to have been able to spend this Mother's Day with all four of my little ones! It's so wonderful having Kate with us full-time. My heart and arms are overflowing!
