Day 18: A Lazy Saturday in La Mesa

After last night's excitement making our way through a pitch black house and worried that my cell phone, our only lifeline to the external world as well as our only flashlight, may run out of battery, Andres, the house care taker, was able to get the generator up and running after a few hours. We were told to minimize our electricity usage to conserve the propane running the generator so we turned off all non-essentials, including the fans. Luckily there was a cool breeze coming through the screened windows to keep us from overheating.

We woke up early and the electricity was still on. But we weren't sure how to tell if the power was back on or if the generator was still running. Around 7:15 am, I got a response to that question. If the generator was indeed still running, we'd know by the loud noise near the kid's playground. I ventured down the hill with the three oldest who were eager to find out as well. The playground was completely quiet! The kids came running back to the house to let Nana Bev know. Everyone was happy to be able to get back to our normal day involving many household appliances that we weren't able to use if the generator was still on.

After breakfast, we splashed around in the pool. The youngest four have been loving our daily swims. The pool has a small shallow area perfect for Aria's bathchair and for our non-swimmers to keep cool safely.

There's also an attached jacuzzi. Both Aria and Sam love feeling all the bubbles, and Kate's been teaching herself to swim in it. We rarely have the heating element on though. With it being so hot here, we are enjoying the refreshing cool water.

Rose is our only swimmer, and she is taking full advantage of the big pool. It's all one level depth and at 5' deep, much too deep for our petite crew.

Aria LOVES the water. She would sit and splash away for hours if I let her. Sam has started to really enjoy the water too. He loves laying on his back and soaking his hair. He's a bit of an attention seeker. If I'm taking photos of the other kids, he'll start to fuss until I turn my camera to him. Then he's all smiles.

At breakfast, Sam had wanted to hold the spoon I was using to feed him. But the eggs just fell off the spoon when he attempted. So for lunch, we opted for a fork instead, and he did amazing! He needed help getting the food stuck onto the utensil, but he was able to take it from there. He beamed with pride after each successful bite.

We are praying that Monday brings with it some news on our court case. We are hoping to be on our way to Bogota come Wednesday if at all possible. We already have an apartment lined up and we'd love to get a jump start on the rest of our paperwork process so we have ample time for sightseeing once Shane and Owen return.
