Day 25: The Salt Cathedral

It's our first weekend in Bogota! We've been so excited to do some sightseeing and spent today in Zipaquira exploring the Salt Cathedral. This is a MUST DO if you are ever in the area. Most of us have been several times and it's still such an amazing sight to see.

The Salt Cathedral is an underground church built inside the tunnels of a salt mine 660 feet underground. Throughout the tunnels of the mine are the 14 stations of the cross leading to the church.

The kids opted to get the self-guided tour on tape and they listened intently at each stop. I was surprised at how interested they were. They really seemed enthralled by the story and facts behind the cathedral.

It was quite the workout for Shane and I toting the two youngest in carriers. By the time we got to the church, Sam was done being squished in the carrier. But alas, we had to walk all the way back up from deep in the tunnels so he would have to wait a bit more.

After our long hike through the salt mines, we grabbed a bit to eat at a local restaurant called Triada. It was delicious and their ajiaco soup was devine!

We got home late in the afternoon. Our two nappers decided they weren't going to sleep in the car so we had a couple very tired kiddos.

Tomorrow is another fun day! We'll be venturing to the Usaquen Market to load up on hand-made Colombian souvenirs.
