Day 24 - Parque Jaime Duque

We spent the entire day outside of Bogota at Parque Jaime Duque.  It is a very unique park - half amusement park and half zoo with lots of interesting buildings and sculptures.

Eating breakfast before our trip

Ready for an adventure at the park
Founded in 1983 by Jaime Duque, a former pilot turned philanthropist, the park was created as a way to bring the treasures of the world to Colombia.

Our tour guide Jorge led us through the park and to the zoo entrance.

Owen being attacked by a lion!
We saw many different animals - snakes, birds, monkeys, lions, you name it!
The boys looking at a snake
Eek! A giant reptile!
A Colombian Parrot

A big cat
A monkey native to Colombia
More monkeys
Owen loved looking at the map and would have preferred to have been the leader (he was very anxious to see the dinosaur exhibit!)

But Cole and Rose were just along for the ride, enjoying their preferred choice of transportation.

We all got a kick out of this male peacock trying to impress the female who just kept pecking away at the ground ignoring him.  And then she took an interest in Owen!  She went right up to the fence and started chirping away at him.

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch.  Jorge led us off to the nearby restaurant for another delicious meal.  I just can't resist the ajiaco soup.  It was delicious as usual and super sized!

Off to the restaurant
A huge portion of ajiaco soup and sides!
After lunch, we enjoyed the rest of the attractions that the park has to offer.

Driving a car - the boys favorite ride!
We were at the park for so long that we were all tuckered out and ready to head back to the apartment, except for Cole!  He wanted to go back to the play area and ride on the zip line again.  But he'd have to wait until next time.  The play area was on the opposite side of the park and our feet just couldn't carry us that far.  So we loaded up the car and drove back to Bogota.

It was dinner time by the time we returned.  The kids were so tired that they all went to bed early, which is good because we need to be ready to go by 7:30 am tomorrow morning to get the passports.
