Rose, Owen and I were venturing out to the passport office. Rose needs a Colombian passport before she can get her visa from the US Embassy to travel home. And as for Owen, his Colombian passport is set to expire in a few years, so it seemed the easiest to just update it while we were here so we didn't have to worry about it for another 10 years.
I remember when Owen got his first Colombian passport. We dressed him up in a button-up shirt and vest. He was such a handsome fella all dolled up. Three kids later and I'm just happy they have clean clothes on!
When we were finally ready, we ran off to find our driver and navigate the crowed roads of Bogota. We made our way to the passport office where Cecilia (our rep) was waiting for us. She budged us in front of everyone to the special line for those with children, the elderly or handicapped. After checking in and receiving our number in line, we waited all of 3 minutes before it was our turn! Things were really moving along!
We headed upstairs to meet with the person who would process our passport application. We gave him all of our important documents and watched as he looked them over. Then he started talking to Cecilia and I could tell something was wrong. I had renewed my passport about a year ago so my current passport number didn't match the passport number on all of Owen's documents. In Colombia, your passport number is the same as your ID number. It's basically like your social security number and the number never changes, but that's not how it works in the States. We were told that we'd have to come back later with my old passport in order to get Owen a new Colombian passport. To top it off, I had brought my old passport to Colombia and had brought every other document with me to the passport office EXCEPT for that one!
The man disappeared to speak with a manager. When he returned he said we'd have to come back tomorrow to apply for Owen's passport. So he started to process Rose's passport. At least she wouldn't have to return tomorrow. While he was working on Rose's passport application, a woman appeared, looked through all the documents we had for Owen (his Colombian passport, ID, and birth certificate) and said that they could issue Owen his new passport! Yay! So both kids' passports are in process and I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow morning!!
Everything went so quickly we were home just a couple hours later. The rest of our day was filled with playing, eating, and a bit of napping for Rose. A nice relaxing day after a weekend full of activities. The boys played outside and at the indoor play area. Owen was busy with some science experiments - attempting to grow crystals with salt, trying to sprout seeds from a mango, and setting up an ant trap outside using left over mango peel. He was being silly and messing around with his hair resulting in quite the hairdo. I just had to take a photo! He's got one thick head of hair!
As for Cole, he's been eating us out of house and home! Snack time this afternoon included 3 scrambled eggs, a granola bar, a bowl of crackers and a bowl of peanuts! He must be having a growth spurt!
